Brief Summary

Thea Costantino is an artist and academic in the School of Design and Art. Her research interests include postcolonialism, the grotesque and the representation of history. She is the recipient of the  2013 Hutchins Art Prize, 2011 Qantas Foundation Encouragement of Australian Contemporary Art Award and the 2012 Artsource / Gunnery Artist Exchange Program, Sydney. She is a member of the collective Hold Your Horses, formed with artists Tarryn Gill and Pilar Mata Dupont in 2009. The group presented new work for the exhibition 'Wagner 2013. Künstlerpositionen' at the Akademie der Künste (Berlin) in 2012. In 2013, Thea undertook research at the Freud Museum (London) and Glasgow Sculpture Studios, presented a paper on Australian artists' engagements with histories of place at the Eighth International Conference on the Arts in Society in Budapest, and showed new work in the National Artists' Self-Portrait Prize at the University of Queensland Art Museum.
