Brief Summary

Steven was head of the department of Economics and Property from 2010 to 2015. He was also director of teaching and learning in the school of Economics and Finance from 2010-2013. He is now Director of the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute's Curtin Research Centre. 

Overview

Steven joined Curtin Business School in July 2007 from the Department of Town and Regional Planning at the University of Sheffield, UK. He worked in Sheffield for 9 years focusing mainly on research, particularly UK Government funded research projects on planning and affordable housing. Steven has also completed projects on a wide variety of property related issues such as commercial property markets and the impact of environmental improvements on land values for organisations such as the European Union, Irish and Welsh governments.
Since coming to Australia he has secured a number of nationally competitive grants from organisations such as the ARC and AHURI and has also completed research projects for organisations such as the WA department of housing, department of planning and  WACOSS.
Steven is  Director of the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI) - Curtin Research Centre.
He is a member of the Housing Industry Forecasting Group and the Property Education Foundation. 
He has published in journals such as Urban Studies and Housing Studies.

Employment History

Steven was employed as a research fellow at the Department of Town and Regional Planning, University of Sheffield, from 1998 to 2007. He also worked for Fordham Planning Consultants in London, specialising in the development viability of residential and commercial development projects with a particular focus on the impact of planning obligations and affordable housing.
