Brief Summary

Clelia completed both her undergraduate and masters degrees in Water Resources Engineering at the Universidad Nacional del Litoral in Santa Fe, Argentina, and her PhD in Environmental Engineering at The University of Western Australia, Australia. Clelia has 23 years of academic and professional experience in a wide range of both environmental and water resources engineering applications in surface water systems (SWS) (rivers, lakes, reservoirs, wetlands, estuaries and coastal seas) gained through her previous and current academic positions both in Argentina and Australia. Prior to joining SEG, Clelia was a Research Associate Professor at the University of Western Australia where she provided scientific leadership in the development of real-time field investigations.

Her main research was and is focused on improving the understanding of transport and mixing processes in SWS and the interplay between these processes and the biogeochemistry of the environment using high level field data analysis, numerical modelling and mathematical scaling. This emphasis is motivated by her desire to create strategies and tools for the sustainable management of SWS, that augments natural processes and moves an existing system in a direction advantageous for the environment and for the human community.

Overview

Clelia has participated in and co-directed 30 major real-time field investigations in SWS, 20 in Australia and 10 around the world, supported by competitive research grant schemes and partnerships with industry and Government agencies.

She has served as board member of the UNESCO/IHA Peer Review Group and Expert Group (Select Review Group) on the Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Freshwater Reservoirs Research Project and of the Argentinean Advisory Board to assist with advice with general water related problems faced by the Secretaria de Obras Publicas, Ministerio de Plantificacion Federal, Republic of Argentina.
