Brief Summary

Alison joined Curtin as an AINSE Research Fellow in 2012, and works across the Departments of Applied Geology and Chemistry as a geochemist focusing on the use of new approaches to understand changes and connections in climate, environments and ecosystems. Alison gained her PhD from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne in 2007, and prior to moving to Australia, held competitively awarded Research Fellowships at the University of Cambridge (McDonald Insitute for Archaeological Research and Clare Hall), and the Open University (Dept of Earth and Environmental Science and the Planetary and Space Sciences Research Institute).

Teaching

Alison mainly teaches into the Applied Geology degree course, focusing on units related to the environment. She is the current Unit Co-ordinator and lecturer for Geol1004 Geoscience, Environment and Society, which covers such diverse subjects as climate change, geohazards, mining legislation, and indigenous culture. She also contributes as a project supervisor to the Geology and Chemistry Honours programmes, and the 3rd year Chemistry Research Methods unit.

Research Interests

Alison's research spans several disciplinary areas, including chemistry, geology, environmental science, physical geography, palaeontology, ecology and archaeology, with the common aim of applying chemical techniques to gaining a better understanding of how climate and the environment function.
