My eCAFs

There are three loan schemes that you can apply for to assist you with the cost of your fees. To apply for any of the three loan schemes, you will need to submit an eCAF. An eCAF is an electronic version of the Commonwealth Assistance Form.


Which eCAF do I complete?

The different Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) schemes are outlined below. The right loan for you will depend on your circumstances, eligibility, and where you want to study.

Note: HELP schemes are only applicable to domestic students.

Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) schemes

The right loan for you will depend on your circumstances, eligibility, and where you want to study.

  • Request for Commonwealth Support and HECS-HELP Assistance
    This form is to be completed by students enrolling in a Commonwealth Supported Place. This form also allows eligible students to access HECS-HELP assistance.
  • Request for FEE-HELP Assistance
    This is a loan program to help eligible fee paying students to pay their tuition fees. Complete this form if you are a fee paying student and wish to defer your tuition fees (mostly applicable to students in postgraduate courses).
  • Request for SA-HELP Assistance
    This is a loan program that assists eligible students to pay for all or part of their student services and amenities fee (SSAF). Complete this form if you want to defer your SSAF.
  • Request for OS-HELP Assistance
    This is a loan available to eligible undergraduate students enrolled in a Commonwealth Supported Place who want to undertake some of their study overseas.


How to complete your eCAF

To complete your eCAF read through the important notes below and follow the steps provided.

Important notes for Commonwealth Supported students

  • All Commonwealth supported students need to submit an eCAF even if you intend to pay your tuition fees upfront. You are registering for a Commonwealth Supported place in completing this form.
  • For students offered a foundation, enabling or bridging course with a contribution exempt place, ensure that you tick 'Full upfront payment of my student contribution amount' in section 12 of the eCAF, or it will not be successfully submitted.
  • Eligible New Zealand Special Category Visa (SCV) holders who meet the requisite criteria will be able to access Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) loans.
  • If you are a New Zealand citizen and you are not on a Special Category Visa (SCV) or you hold a visa other than a permanent humanitarian visa, you are not eligible for a HELP loan and you will be required to pay up-front with no discount.
  • Eligible for HECS-HELP but don't yet have a TFN, you can still submit your eCAF and select 'up-front payment' in the first instance so that you can proceed with your enrolment. Read the Tax File Number Requirements for advice on applying for a TFN.

Please note, if you are an Australian citizen or holder of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa, you are eligible to access HECS-HELP Assistance which allows you to defer your payments through the loan scheme, provided that you meet residency requirements.

To complete an eCAF:

Before you start, make sure you have accepted your offer, and have your Student ID and Tax File Number (TFN) with you.

  1. Click Create new eCAF.
  2. A list of Available forms will appear. Click Complete Form for the eCAF you wish to submit. For explanations of each form and when to use it, refer to Which eCAF do I complete?
  3. Once opened, the eCAF will pre-populate with relevant information. Read all of the information provided and complete the remaining questions.
  4. Acknowledge your obligations and confirm your declaration by ticking the boxes at the bottom of the form.
  5. Click Submit

Note: if an error occurs it will be listed at the top of the page. On successful submission of the form you will receive a green confirmation message.

How to print your eCAF

To print your completed eCAF for your records, you need to:

  1. Click the View button next to the eCAF you wish to print.
  2. You will be taken to a new screen with a completed copy of the eCAF.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page.
  4. Click Print. This will take you to the print settings. Select your preferred printer and Click Print again to confirm.
